Insurance has a way of making simple things weird.
We’ll help untangle it.
We work with many major vision plans and medical insurance plans in Austin, Texas. If you are not sure what you have, what it covers, or which name your vision plan is hiding under, call us. We’ll help check your specific benefits before your visit.
Insurance is not exactly known for being charming. We’ll make it as painless as possible.
Plans we commonly work with
Not all plans behave the same.
Vision plans
Vision plans typically help with routine eye exams, glasses, prescription lenses, and contact lenses.
They usually work through copays, allowances, discounts, and plan rules, not by making everything “fully covered.” Your specific vision plan determines what applies, when benefits renew, and whether they can be used toward glasses, contacts, or both.
Contact lens exams and fittings are separate from routine eye exams and are not usually fully covered. Most patients should expect some out-of-pocket cost for contact lens fitting, evaluation, or follow-up care.
We’ll help you understand what your plan contributes before you make decisions.
Medical plans
Medical insurance may apply when your visit is related to an eye health concern or medical diagnosis.
That can include care for dry eye disease, eye infections, glaucoma, diabetic eye care, and other medical eye conditions.
Medical plans may involve copays, deductibles, coinsurance, referrals, or prior authorization depending on your coverage.
Thrilling vocabulary. Important details.

Why two kinds of insurance?
Whether your visit is billed to vision or medical insurance depends on your main reason for coming in and what the doctor finds during the exam.
That is why we ask for both your vision and medical insurance when you book, even if you are coming in for a routine exam or new glasses. If something medical comes up during your visit, we can bill it correctly instead of pausing everything to chase down coverage.
Having both on file helps us verify benefits ahead of time, explain costs more clearly, and avoid surprises at checkout.
No one wants a surprise at checkout.

Some insurance plans use different names, networks, or third-party vision administrators, so your benefits may not be obvious at first glance. You may have vision benefits through your employer, medical insurance, or a separate plan that does not clearly say VSP, EyeMed, or Superior on the front.
If we can verify your plan, we’ll explain what applies before your appointment.
If we are out of network with your plan, we can provide an itemized superbill so you can submit for possible reimbursement directly through your insurance.
We also accept FSA and HSA cards for eligible exams, contact lens services, prescription eyewear, and other qualifying purchases.
No
insurance?
That’s okay.
We’re straightforward about pricing and happy to explain costs before your visit. Many patients without vision coverage choose to pay out of pocket for their eye exam, glasses, contact lens care, or medical eye visit.
Call us for current pricing, and we’ll help you understand what to expect.
